What to expect at a fast food restaurant
Burger joints and fast-food restaurants are built for speed: order at a counter, kiosk, app or drive-through and expect your food in minutes. The category ranges from national chains with identical menus everywhere to independent burger stands, regional favorites with cult followings and modern “better burger” shops that grind their own beef.
What to order
- Classic cheeseburger – the signature item almost everywhere
- Fries or onion rings – ask for them fresh if the line is short
- Chicken sandwich – a fierce battleground between chains in recent years
- Milkshake – hand-spun shakes are a hallmark of independent burger stands
Good to know
- Ordering ahead in the brand’s app usually skips the line and unlocks app-only deals.
- The lunch rush peaks around noon to 1 PM; mid-afternoon is the quickest time to visit.
- Drive-through hours can differ from lobby hours – the lobby often closes earlier at night.
